Idea Sharing - from the Southern Division!

At our Southern Division Training this month we offered an idea sharing session. We positioned posters  around the room with different topics such as Club, Music, Campaigners, Mentor Care/Retention, Transportation, Camp ideas and so on... and gave the coordinators and volunteers an opportunity to share their tried & true ideas!

The ideas shared were compiled into this document available on Google docs. Feel free to peruse and get some fresh ideas for ministry!

Hard Pressed on Every Side

At the Multicultural Pre-Conference before the All Staff Celebration in January I had the opportunity to attend a workshop called "Hard Pressed on Every Side". It was led by Dr. Cynthia Erikson and Dr. Jude Watson of Fuller Youth Institute (Fuller Seminary).

Dr. Erikson and Dr. Watson have done extensive research on urban youth workers. In the presentation they share about burnout, self-care, environmental stressors, internal stressors, and post-tramatic stress disorder.

Their presentation and accompanying handout are now available on the Staff Resources site. Other recordings from the Pre-Conference are also available on this page. Take a look!

Urban Youth Workers Institute - RELOAD

The Urban Youth Workers Institute is a great resource for us in YoungLives. Check out their website and take advantage of the resources and trainings they have to offer.
Also, look for a RELOAD event in your area. RELOAD, one-day training events teach core skills, promote local resources to support youth outreach efforts and provide opportunities for engaging with other community leaders. RELOAD offers Collaboration, Community, Coaching, Counsel, Worship, Workshops and the Word of God to bring together a powerful network that you can leverage for maximum ministry impact.

Baby Registry for Camp

Did you know that YoungLives Camps have a baby registry for people who want to help in some way? Pass this registry link on to family and friends so we can get our camps ready for girls and babies this summer! Who doesn't like purchasing baby gifts?

United Way

Anyone out there have their full budget raised? If so you can skip this post. If not, keep reading!

You may be able to obtain funding for your ministry through United Way.
United Way's Vision: United Way envisions a world where all individuals and families achieve their human potential through education, income stability and healthy lives.

United Way's Mission: United Way improves lives by mobilizing the caring power of communities around the world to advance the common good.

Many United Way local agencies funnel support to organizations within their geographic area that fulfull their vision and mission. As such YoungLives groups can sometimes obtain general funding through United Way. Or donors who wish to give to YoungLives may be able to give to United Way and have those funds directed to YoungLives. One advantage of this is often times employers will match such gifts. All funding decisions are made by the local United Way agency, so you will need to speak with your local agency to find out what the options are.

The Young Life Grants and Foundations office is willing to help your area research funding through United Way.

Sierra's Story: Teen Mom Testimony

Sierra Martinez recently shared her story at the Young Life Celebration conference in Florida. She did an excellent job! Feel free to share with potential (or current!) volunteers or donors.
